On the slopes

On the slopes, ready, go!

All beginnings are difficult. Winter sports are certainly no exception. There are countless beginner mistakes waiting to be skilfully avoided. To ensure that nothing stands in the way of an extensive winter holiday, we have put together five useful tips for newcomers to the slopes. With that in mind: break a leg!

Preparation is everything

The perfect skiing experience begins at home. Nothing is more annoying than realizing after a carefully planned journey that something is missing. In addition to skis, poles, helmet, ski boots and ski goggles, warm clothing should be packed in your suitcase. In terms of clothing, the so-called "onion look", where several layers of clothing on top of each other keep the body warm, is highly recommended. You should also pack sunglasses, sunscreen and of course your ski pass.

Start small and increase quickly

No one is born a master on the ski slopes. That's why training is the be-all and end-all. Every skier's career begins on the flat plain. Here you should start with unspectacular gliding and sliding to familiarize yourself with the snow and the skis. But you should leave the beginners' hill behind you as soon as possible, because it quickly gets boring there. So as soon as you see the first signs of progress, you should gather up all your courage and venture onto the next bigger slope. Even if there might be a few crashes there.

The Problem with Fear

Unfortunately, as an adult you know what can happen when skiing: hundreds of bones could easily break, there are countless places where you can bruise and just as many joints that could sprain. And while you're thinking about all of this, dozens of skiers have already raced past you towards the valley. This fear doesn't just go away on its own. Every run requires a lot of effort. But it's worth it.

Driving under blue skies and sunshine

As is often the case, the weather makes the difference on a skiing holiday. The enjoyment of skiing lies in the view of the landscape and the bright blue-white contrast, in short breaks in front of the hut and a breathtaking view from the ski lift. This only works when the weather is good. And if it does rain, there is always the wellness area in the hotel.

From the slopes to the ski hut

Après ski is simply part of a winter holiday. When winter sports enthusiasts meet in the ski hut in the evening, even the biggest party pooper will find themselves singing along to the catchy pop tunes after a few glasses of “Williams Christ”. With a little Oktoberfest or carnival experience, you can easily keep up with the après ski. The songs and drinks are the same, you just party at an altitude of 2,000 meters.
